A client of mine received an extortion threat demanding bitcoin payment. The criminal provided a valid password from a particular website as “proof” that malware had been deposited on the target’s computer. For reasons I won’t go into here the claim was clearly bogus and no ransom will be paid. The threat arrived at 10:30 AM Eastern May 17, 2019. Note the author was clearly not a native English speaker and the message had many spelling and grammar errors.
