An email claiming to know my password (in this case one I haven't used for many years) and that they've hacked my webcam, recorded me, and threatening to release the footage to all my social media contacts.

I collected all your private data and I RECORDED YOU (through your webcam) SATISFYING YOURSELF! I can send the video to all your contacts, post it on social network, publish it on the whole web, including the darknet, where the sick people are, I can publish all I found on your computer everywhere! Only you can prevent me from doing this and only I can help you out in this situation. Transfer exactly 1200$ with the current bitcoin (BTC) price to my bitcoin address. My bitcoin address is: 1PuxZLDEz2as13NKcTzC2BGadF2g2zhdfo

Only a scam if you're dumb enough to fall for it

The password was from 2011 and used once on mylife.com (all of my passwords are unique) A few problems: -I don't have a webcam. -They claim to have access to the computer, but need to send an email to communicate to you. (You have to be at a certain level of stupid to not see the plausibility issue with that.) -Zero information that is specific to you other than the very password itself. "I give you 2 days time to transfer the bitcoin." I found this by chance in an old email trash folder. A message that was sent a month ago. "After receiving the payment, I will remove everything and you can life your live in peace like before." I've always wanted to life my live. Why was this not the subject line!! You would have had the 1200¢ so you too can life your live like before. "Next time update your browser before browsing the web." I'm pretty sure most software update themselves nowadays. But hey, great 2011 advice! It's never too late to enable your automatic updates.
