copy/paste scam

When I tried to pay for my order on ModafinilXL I was told that their main crypto address was invalid so I copied/pasted their alternate address & it went through. But then the original transaction also went through, so I paid twice. Customer service blamed me for putting in the wrong address when, in fact, all I did was copy/paste, then they went silent when I brought up this fact. Since I'm new to crypto I did not know about this scam & didn't check the copied address to see if it matched. When I went back later to investigate what had happened I discovered that it actually did NOT match the address that I had copied. I didn't even know this was possible. I will double then triple check all addresses from now on but I thought this was worth reporting since I just paid $510 for a $255 order with no recourse possible. Thanks
